If you joined us at SaltConf18, or if you’ve been paying attention to any of the work Cloudflare has been doing with SaltStack during the last couple of years, it won’t be much of a surprise to you that SaltStack intelligent network automation is used to configure, manage, and secure software-defined network environments.
At SaltConf18 organizations like IBM Cloud, Carnegie Mellon University, and Domotz shared how they use SaltStack for network automation and IoT device control. Specifically, the IBM Cloud team shared how they work with Cisco to use SaltStack to automate and scale control of their massive and very complex network environment. And in a blog post published earlier today, Cisco shared additional detail about the Cisco NX-OS integration with SaltStack.
Thomas Scheibe, VP, Cisco Data Center, said, “Cisco is working closely with customers to optimize IT infrastructure uptime and simplify operations through intent-based network fabric automation. Support for SaltStack event-driven automation with Cisco NX-OS provides customers an option to manage large-scale Nexus fabrics in a programmatic way, from defining configurations to monitoring and remediating issues.”
Building on the foundation of remote execution, configuration management, and event-driven infrastructure, SaltStack is able to provide specific solutions designed for network operations teams. SaltStack intelligent network automation helps these teams deliver:
- Global control of heterogeneous networks at massive scale.
- Programmatic configuration of network hardware, software, and virtualized components.
- Real-time audits of network configuration state.
- Integrated and active enforcement of network security policies and protection against DDOS attacks.
Brian Armstrong, IBM Cloud network engineering executive, said, “SaltStack network automation is crucial for the IBM Cloud network. It is helping us eliminate human error, scale our deployments, manage configuration, and ensure security and regulatory compliance. There is no way for us to operate at this scale without automation. SaltStack is the answer for us.”
We’re just getting started in providing powerful and unique solutions for network operations teams. If you have additional questions about SaltStack network automation please reach out and let us know how we can help.
